Professional mentors for Intercultural Artists

The Danish Arts Council intends to focus on diversity and intercultural projects and prioritize them with respect to artists and cultural institutions in Denmark.

Therefore, The Danish Arts Council has instituted a special two-year advisory project to highlight professional career opportunities for intercultural artists living in Denmark and to draw attention to intercultural artistic projects. This effort is directed towards the Council’s areas of operation: visual arts, literature, music, and theater and dance.

The project will create a mentor program for artists and cultural institutions in Denmark with the goal of offering counseling by professional mentors familiar with intercultural issues and the Danish system for funding the arts.

The mentor program will introduce artists to networking opportunities and give them new information about the Danish art and cultural scene, while art and cultural institutions can, through workshops, collect professional information about intercultural issues, and get advice on developing new approaches to producing and promoting qualified, intercultural art.

How many mentorships?

The Danish Arts Council expects to establish 20-25 mentor relationships between artists with an intercultural background and professional, established artists with special knowledge about intercultural issues, together with a similar number of workshops with cultural institutions.

Admission - February 19

There is rolling admission for intercultural artists who apply for a professional mentor, as well as for institutions that would like a two-day workshop. Professional, established artists who would like to be mentors and workshop leaders can apply until February 19, 2010.
