A-kassen for non-EU citizens?

Hey fellow expats, I am curious if anyone with a non-EU citizenship has joined the A-kassen? Does it make any sense to join it, and will I get any benefits in case of being laid off? I have read on the 3F website that you're only eligible for benefits as long as you have a work permit, which may well make the a-kassen useless, as you lose your work permit shortly after losing your job. it depends on the grounds for your stay in denmark.

if your stay is connected to a job and if you loose that job, you will need to leave denmark. being a member of an a-kasse will not help, as you will not be able to stay in the country and receive the benefits.

So, A-kasse doesn't make sense in this case, but you might want to take a look at what the trade union can help you with. they can give advice on many different work related aspects which can be very beneficial. talk to them and see if their offerings make sense for you. make sure that the trade union fits to your line of business, like Prosa for IT-people, Lederne for people in leadership positions, Ingenioren for engineers etc.

Dagmars right; it's pretty much a waste of money for you to join any A Kasse given the work permit issue.

Just to be sure, could you please drop me a mail at crt@expatindenmark.com and I can double check the issues for you.

We'll be holding some information meetings about A-Kasse and unemployment insurance in the coming weeks, so maybe that'd be interesting for you, but in the meantime please send me a mail and we'll see what else we can find out for you.
